Government Affairs Committee (GAC)
The Government Affairs Committee consists of approximately 20 members with varying interests and expertise in the various facets of the real estate industry. Appointments are made by joint agreement of the President and President-Elect with the approval of the Board of Directors. Members serve 2-year staggered terms. The Committee operates on a July to June basis.
The GAC monitors legislation primarily focused on real estate and private property rights, as well as on the economic development of the State of Hawai'i. Prior to session, legislative priorities are recommended to the HAR Board of Directors for approval. During session, testimonies consistent with HAR positions are presented to the State Legislature, in addition to testifying in support of in opposition to many other bills of interest.
